1 year

Radar wrote this in the early evening:

Well, October 22, the day I moved in last year. It’s been rough at times, Scott isn’t all that easy to live with. Just last night he kicked me in his sleep, and it seems like every night where he complains that I’m standing between him and the clock when I get him up. Honesty, why does it matter what time it is, I’m hungry, which means it’s time to get up. It’s not like I’m going to just go away when he pulls the blanket over his head. What I’m going to do is reach under it and poke him until he gets up. With my nose if he’s lucky, with some claws if he’s not.

Things are pretty good though, I have some nice places to hang out and watch the world go by. Sometimes there are other cats out there, so I have to tell them to go away.

A couple times I had to go have people poke and prod me, and stick a tube somewhere I really don’t want to talk about. Lately I’ve been feeling good though, so I don’t think I’m going to have to go back.

Rocks in my head

Scott wrote this around lunchtime:

Well, technically, rocks on my head, but they could have been in it.

It’s a windy day. Wind and trying to skate along a pretty much dry river in what is essentially a desert are not things that go together for two primary reasons. The first is that it’s difficult to make any headway against the wind. The second is that the wind is not entirely wind, but is wind with dirt, leaves, small rocks, and twigs. I feel somewhat scoured. Also blind, but mainly it’s the sand that gets under my fingernails every time I scratch my head that is the most annoying right now.

On the other hand, after turning around to go back to my car, things were really nice in that it didn’t require much effort at all, and on one occasion managed to cover a long flat stretch, a downhill and an uphill without needing to do anything but let the wind push me. Back on the first hand, excessive easily obtained speed doesn’t go well with the various bits of tree debris that had blown onto the path since they kept tripping me up.

Big Trees

Scott wrote this at around evening time:

My parents got into town yesterday, so I’m taking some time off work while they are here. Today my mom wanted to see sequoia trees, so we went to where there are some. As it turns out, they are pretty far away. Leaving at 7:30 and getting there around 1:00 far away.

I’ve developed a general feeling that trusting the people in the tourist info offices about what way to go to get places may be a poor choice. Rocks shouldn’t jut out into the driving lane from the cliff walls, that’s not something that instills confidence in someone while negotiating sharp blind turns through the mountains with a steep drop-off into a river on the other side of the road. Still, if we hadn’t taken the “scenic” route, we would not have gotten to the ranger station where we got the instructions of “The sequoias are about 1.5 hours away. Take a right at the first stop sign (Being the one at the turn off to the ranger station from the road we were following), a left at the second stop sign, and a right at the third stop sign.” I’d also like to point out that we had 3 maps which disagreed with each other, leading to us getting back by using a road that did not appear on 2 maps, went a different direction from what was on the map it was on, had no name, and went through towns that only existed on one map.

Hooray for pictures

Foresight

Scott wrote this mid-afternoon:

You know, any day where the phrase “A vacuum cleaner fell on my head” comes into play may not be the best day.

The vacuum doesn’t work very well on the stairs, it’s just too wide to really get any suction, but it does have a flexible tube with a wand for just such a thing. The first step went pretty well and I was almost done with the second one, when there was a flash of yellow and a fairly significant whack on the top of my head.

Quite frankly, the top of the stairs can just stay unvacuumed for all I care at this point.

I need Tivo

Scott wrote this in the late afternoon:

Sunday, September 30: Ok, I’ll try to post something every day in October. I used to be able to write something every day.

Monday, October 1: 8:30: I’ll just lay on the couch and watch Colbert Report and then catch the Heroes premiere at 9, then get back on the computer. *Insert sleep* 11:55: Well, I guess I’m not posting anything today, I can’t type fast enough. Oh, someone is on Google talk who should be sleeping by now according to her goals, I’ll tell her goodnight.

Tuesday, October 2: Well, I missed a day, but I’ll just lay on the couch and watch Colbert Report and then…. *ZZZZZZzzzzzzzz* 11:30: Well, I guess I missed today too, so I’ll just go up to bed.

Wednesday, October 3: Ok I give up on the blogging, I’ll just watch Colbert Report and then catch the South Park premiere *Sudden blank space* 12:30: Oh come on, that wasn’t even close. Just how much sleep do I need in a week?

Thursday, October 4: I think I’ve discovered the trend. Perhaps if I don’t watch Colbert Report, I’ll still be awake when the Drawn Together premiere comes on.

Friday, October 5: I have keyboard marks embedded in my cheek, tonight I will make sure the TV is off while Colbert Report is on.
